Our people are aviation professionals. Their collective strength is the
knowledge and experience they can bring to bear on seemingly intractable
problems. Our people are multi-disciplinary and from diverse backgrounds.
Many are engineers. Some are pilots, both private and commercial. Some
have worked as air traffic controllers. Others have experience in airport
operations.
Here is an aggregate view of our people and a view of the talent we look
for in our hiring process.
Practical Experience
CAASD
staff come from many backgrounds, are highly skilled, and personify mature
judgment. CAASD people may come from aviation industry-related positions
such as commercial pilots and avionics engineers, bringing a wealth of
practical experience to work for the public interest. Government service
has also been a place of former employment for CAASD technical staff.
New graduates can find a home and establish interesting careers at CAASD.
Problem
solving, on the scale of the worlds air traffic management systems,
and doing it effectively and quickly, implies experience. It is through
the experience of our people that we can say we have likely seen it all,
and generally know how the problem was solved before. The knowledge base
we've built, continue to build, and pass on to new employees, makes us
unique. CAASD's award-winning mentoring program ensures the continuation
of our experience and problem-solving skills to leverage against future
issues.
Information Technology Skills
Each
Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM)
system is really a system of systems. To solve problems in this environment
takes a tremendous amount of modern system engineering expertise. Since
subsystems of an air traffic control system involve communications, software,
networks of computers and communications lines, those skills are in demand.
In this era of the expanding internet, information security is another
highly important skill.
CAASD looks for the reasons there are problems,
and many times these reasons are economic, another skill in high demand.
CAASD solutions also involve laboratory prototypes, so CAASD people have
skills in simulation and modeling. It is a diverse and stimulating environment.
CAASDs technical staff members are highly educated and maintain
their currency in their chosen fields.
Our Research and Development Focus
Our
customers have sought our assistance in several areas, shown on these
diagrams. The importance of computers and computer-assisted decision support
systems for solutions to problems in air traffic control cannot be understated.
In fact, CAASDs technical expertise has evolved from an emphasis
in sensors and communications to decision support and computer-assisted
collaboration. Likewise, our laboratory capabilities have evolved from
building prototype communications and surveillance systems to developing
integrated decision support suites for operational personnel such as air
traffic controllers and traffic flow managers.
The
knowledge and expertise of the highly motivated CAASD technical staff
represents a valuable resource for those looking to solve real- world
problems. Furthermore, the attrition rate in the CAASD population is among
the lowest in the business. People find the environment (interesting problems,
interesting people, opportunity) and technical challenges of the job stimulating
and attractive, making for a long relationship. Thats good for us
and it is good for our customers.
