CAASD Authors Win Human Factors and Ergonomics Society’s Best Article Award

At the Plenary Session of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society 50th Annual Meeting on October 17, the 2006 Best Ergonomics in Design Article Award was presented in recognition of the article “Better Taxiway Surface Markings, Safer Airports,” by Steven Estes, Oscar Olmos and Cheryl Andrews of MITRE’s Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD), Anthony D. Andre of San Jose State University Foundation, and Susan Chrysler, a communications consultant and Dan Hannon, a consultant in the field of engineering psychology.

Brian has been selected to participate in the National Academy of Engineering's (NAE) 10th annual Frontiers of Engineering symposium, September 9-11 at the National Academies Arnold and Mabel Beck Center in Irvine, Calif. He is one of 86 participants selected to attend the symposium and recognized as the nation's brightest young engineers. The three-day symposium brings together engineers ages 30 to 45 who perform cutting-edge engineering research and technical work in a variety of disciplines. The participants come from industry, academia and government fields and were nominated by fellow engineers or organizations. This year's participants were chosen from a field of over 170 applicants.
MITRE/CAASD Receives Two Best Paper Awards at ATM 2003 Conference

The FAA and Eurocontrol held the Air Traffic Management 2003 Research and Development Conference in Budapest, Hungary, June 23 through 27. The FAA places high priority on having a strong U.S. presence as a demonstration of world leadership in aviation. It is with special pride that we announce that the ATM 2003 committee chose seven MITRE/CAASD papers to be presented at the conference and that two of those were honored with Best Paper Awards.
MITRE/CAASD Wins Award from Air Traffic Control Association

In recognition of its outstanding work for the URET (User Request Evaluation Tool) program, the Center for Advanced Aviation System Development at MITRE was recently awarded the President's Special Medallion Award by the Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA). The award was formally announced at the most recent ATCA Annual Meeting.
MITRE/CAASD and MITRE Air Force Center Staff Receive 2003 RTCA Awards

On June 24, RTCA, Inc., honored MITRE/CAASD and MITRE Center for Air Force Command and Control Systems (CAFC2S) staff during its 5th Annual Spring Forum and Award Luncheon in Washington, DC. RTCA serves as a federal advisory committeee to the Federal Aviation Administration. It develops consensus-based industry recommendations and standards documents addressing key aviation needs through the volunteer contributions of a wide range of companies, including MITRE. Achieving industry concensus and getting a document published is a major milestone. The recepients of RTCA's citations and certificates of appreciation represent those in government and industry who made truly significant contributions in developing consensus-based recommendations in the past year.
MITRE/CAASD Receives NAV CANADA's "Award of Excellence"

NAV CANADA recognized MITRE/CAASD for its "outstanding support to our operations and our Air Traffic Management System." William Fenton, NAV CANADA's chief financial officer, recognized MITRE/CAASD for its "excellent work in support of NAV CANADA's Converging Runway Display Aid (CRDA) program." Developed at MITRE/CAASD, the CRDA program improves airport operational performance and reduces arrival and departure delays at airports where it has been implemented (places like St. Louis and Philadelphia).
