Organizing Structure

Structure for organizing discussion of the Flight Object and the information elements that make it up:

  • Flight As Filed

Information from National Airspace System (NAS) user personnel and tools (examples)

  • Flight As Cleared

Information from Air Traffic Management (ATM) personnel and tools (examples)

  • Flight As Flown

Information from sensors and pilot reports (examples)

For each of these components, the information elements are further organized into the following categories:

  • Planned or Projected

Information about proposed actions or events that are being considered

  • Current

Information that reflects the present version of the information elements

  • History

Information that is no longer current or that records what happened over time

Focus shifts among these components and categories over the lifecycle of a flight, as illustrated by an example showing the dynamics for flight plan information.
